In order to teach beauty, I believe that the NGO should show them pictures of beautiful things that make up their own tribe; i.e. a beautiful picture of the people or a beautiful picture of the ecology. By showing them a beautiful picture of something that they know, they will gain more appreciation and amusement from the photograph and hopefully treat the subject in the photograph (whether it is a child, a woman, an animal, etc…) with more respect. In example; if someone were to capture a beautiful picture of sharks swimming innocently in the ocean, one would treat the sharks with more compassion than if one were to capture a grotesque picture of sharks swimming violently in the ocean. Such manipulation of photography to turn an ordinary subject into something beautiful and appreciated is very effective in making people treat that subject with more respect or more compassion. This form of photography could also help denounce cannibalism and infanticide – as it could help show the people the beauty of life and the importance of sustaining life.

    Why?
Under the subject of Art, we believe that the more famous and studied art should be focused on. The two paintings that we have chosen are the Virtruvian Man, by Leonardo da Vinci, and Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh. These are two paintings that have been studied and analyzed for years, and many subjects can be tied into both of the paintings. Even though the paintings do not represent anything having to do with South/Latin America, they both refer to the world as a whole, and they are both two of the most famous pieces of art ever made. Starry Night by Van Gogh shows different types of patterns, and uses many different colors and incorporates a style of painting that can be interpreted in different ways. The Virtruvian Man by da Vinci is a very historic painting which can be looked at in many different angles. The script above and below the actual painting has been analyzed for years, and it would work out very well for the children studying art in such a remote area. They could be able to come to their own conclusions about the two paintings, and they could discover even more about them!

{RECORDER.jpg} Recorder- they can learn to make these and then sell them to make a profit
The reason that we chose percussion and the recorder was for two main reasons. The first one being money. These two types of instruments can be made from bamboo and other types of wood which these children have an unlimited supply of. If made correctly, these instruments could make these children a profit, and in the long run give them something to fully develop and they could then produce much more of these instruments. The idea of percussion also was thought of due to the fact that there are so many different types of percussion instruments, and they can all complement each other in all types of pieces. The amount of percussion instruments can also give a variety of different instruments to play. You could play either the bongo drum, or you could play the marimba. That is why percussion instruments should be considered when thinking about what to teach these children. Lastly, the recorder is a gateway to many different horn and wind instruments, and if you are taught the basics on how to play the recorder, that will allow you to excel in the future when playing instruments such as the clarinet, saxophone, the flute and many others.

    History
We believe that in the subject of history, there needs to be a balance between years way back and very contemporary history. It is important for these children to learn the history of their country, and by doing that, there needs to be a specific timeline which would include the important years and/or events. Along with that, the subject of history for these children should also include what is going on in the world now, and in very recent years. Topics such as NAFTA and 9/11 should be taught and the students, in our opinion, would enjoy and benefit from learning topics such as those ones.

    ...
Truth, beauty and ethics are difficult words to define. At first glance, it seems obvious, truth is fact, beauty is being attractive, and ethics are what’s right. However, after much consideration, we discovered that there is more to these three words than just a simple definition, and that the key would be to create solid explanations pertaining to the challenge in order to explain our choices regarding ethics, music, language and geography. The problem with defining truth is that we have no way of knowing what is actually true. We can call truth a logical statement, such as with the coherence theory. This theory states that if a statement fits with other statements that we as a society accept as true. Another main theory is the correspondence theory, which states that if a statement is perceived it as part of a reality, and it corresponds with this reality, then it too is true. It was on these two theories that we based our definition of truth. We decided that truth meant something that has been proven to be correct through mathematical or just logical reasoning, or something that corresponds, or fits with this logic. At first glance, beauty seems to be just an outside appearance, something that is appealing to look at. Upon greater examination, we decided that beauty was not only on the outside. Something or someone is extremely capable of being beautiful not based on the outward appearance. However, we did agree with the conventional definition that it is something that is pleasurable. This led us to the modified definition that beauty is something that gives pleasure or deep satisfaction when experienced. Whether or not something or someone is beautiful is a very controversial topic, because not everyone has the same opinion. This issue will be explored in greater detail later on, in conjunction with the other topics. The final word, ethics, might be the most controversial of all three to define. However in this situation, we decided that ethics were moral standards and practices commonly accepted by a society, that are socially acceptable. -SO

Fo art, they should learn about some important artists, and their different style sof painting. Also they could learn to play the flute and maybe also teach them how to make them so they would be able to produce them and then sell them for some source of income.
For dancing they could learn a mixture of occidental contemporary dances with a bit of their own traditional dances.

    Music
While the Organization is not focused much on music it can still be an important part of their life and should be introduced. One way to bring music into their lives would be to bring wooden flutes. Also, we can bring someone who crafts this instrument for a living. They already have drums so it won't be necessary to bring those. We can switch their war drumming into drumming to provide a rhythm. Then the flutes can be added to create a melody. The reason wooden flutes would be beneficial is that they can be made with no special materials. They can be created with the environment they live in. If they get good enough at making these instruments they can also sell them off to create income. Flutes are also a beautiful sounding instrument. It will please the organization to hear beautiful tones coming from these people. The last thing about music we will teach is the theory part. They should be taught how to read and write music so they can be more independent and be able to play any kind of song they want. If we ever leave they will still have sheet music and their own minds to continue playing. Making music is overall a great way to bring the clan together and bring creativity into their lives. -BW

    Ethics
Since the Organization of Truth, Beauty and Ethics is a western based organization, we decided to introduce western style ethics to the Amazonian tribe. However, the problem with introducing anything to this tribe is that they will probably reject it at first, meaning we will have to start slowly, and build up patience, tolerance and most of all trust between us and the natives. We decided that we should try and teach the natives the Golden Rule “do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” This is the basis of most western societies, and one of the easiest ideals to teach another person. We will teach the natives that they should treat every other person as they would want to be treated themselves. Under this main topic, we hope to modify their views on war, cannibalism, and possibly infanticide. We believe that the tribe was too focused on war and violence, and didn’t think enough about the repercussions it would have on others. We wanted to teach them the benefit of peaceful negotiations, in order to minimize the death toll, and therefore increase life expectancy and productivity in the village. Also, we would like to teach them that cannibalism is not right. This coincides with the main point of treating others as you would want to be treated. The natives would most likely not want to be the victims of cannibalization, so we would teach them not to do it to others, regardless the reason or motif. Lastly is the issue of infanticide. We believed that in this particular situation, infanticide might be for the betterment of the tribe, and should therefore be left alone. They only practice it when the crops do not turn out well, and do not have enough nourishment for the children which means that they would probably die of malnutrition anyway. Some may argue that infants are humans too, and that the elders have no authority to kill these innocent babies, but as I stated before, the children would not be provided with enough nourishment to survive anyway, and it saves the tribe a lot of grief and aggravation always caring for sick and dying children. The tribe is able to function much more productively when all members (large and small) are healthy. However, we would teach them that it is not always the right answer, and try to help them understand that if it can be prevented, in any way, infanticide should not be practiced. - SO

Ethics and morality are very important because even with knowledge it can be used inappropriately without a properly developed sense of morals. The natives practice many different traditions that can quite clearly be considered unethical. These include their practices of warring, infanticide and cannibalism. These result in unnecessary death, injuries and sadness and we must teach them that this is wrong. However, blatantly teaching them that their customs are wrong would surely provoke the natives and cause them to shun our advice and possibly become aggressive towards. In teaching them, we must do so in a logical, rational and sensitive way so as not to offend the tribe. These are traditions that they have likely practiced their entire lives and for many generations and we must take this into account when dealing with these practices. Though they may seem bizarre to us and are clearly unethical, they don’t know better and have accepted them as a part of their way of life. Perhaps in our school we should teach them about ethics and morality in general as a part of the curriculum. We could teach them about what morality means and then let them come to their own conclusions about their outdated practices. If the teaching is good, they will come to the correct conclusions and decide for themselves that their practices go against what is right and decent and stop them of their own accord. I think that this is a better and more sound solution than blatantly telling them their customs are wrong, as it would be unfair of us to come to conclusions for them; after all we’re there to establish a school, not a government – we’re there to make them our equals not our slaves. “A man chooses, a slave obeys.” They must not follow our teachings blindly, they must do so with a critical mind and a watchful eye, very similar to the teachings of the wise and benevolent IB.

Art is a very important part of society today as we know it and it is very beneficial for them to learn about certain kinds of art. Ever since the time of cave drawings and paintings art has been prominent in today's society. Such artwork from Leonardo Da Vinci has always been constantly discussed throughout the world. Art can also be useful to tie into religion not that certain religious views should be thrust upon them but it would help them to relate more to a society in which they need to get accustomed to. The difficulty with teaching them about art is brining the supplies and being able to them there. Bringing certain pictures of famous artwork and maybe a few artist supplies would benefit the tribe in question greatly. Art is used to express emotions and feelings if taught about these certain things, the stimulance of feelings could become prominent if certain members of the tribe became very interested in art, it would be a vessel to express there emotion and feeling rather then have them remain cannablistic, it would help to keep the immorale feelings and help them release emotions.

Music is not a hugely important part but, it would still be beneficial for us to provide them with some of the mainstream types of music as well as music teachings. Music can help to stimulate feelings and emotions, it would be very helpful for them to learn about different kinds of music and styles. The tribe in question does in fact live in Brazil providing them with a Brazilian perspective on music would be the best to start off. Bringing them classical music from certain famous historical composers such as Mozart or Beethoven or Bach, would help to stimulate there feelings as well as provide a diverse enough background of music and different composers would be beneficial. Classical music is said to help provided more intelligence to kids as well as to provide them with a certain stimulant boost which would give them more control over the feelings and cannibalistic ways. I think it is important to teach them ethics and that that warring and infanticide are unethical and there are better alterntives to thier problems. I like the ideas you guys have put forward about educating them and teaching them about Nazi Germany. I also think we should teach them about other genocides as well (e.g. Rawanda, or Darfur which is not only a good example of genocide, but a current event as well). After each genocide people say never again. Well people do not stay true to this statment becuase it does happen again and again. It seems history repeats itself in terms of its atrocities and we need to teach them how unethical the world can be and although we seem to have trouble learning from our own mistakes sometimes, they should not. Genocides in general are a great way to teach the value of life and ethics. This tribe needs to learn the value of human life and that everyone is equal as a person and deserves respect and fair treatment.

    ...
We, as a group of caring citizens of the world believe that we would do a great job to help the unfortunate tribe of Amazonians. We believe that intervening in a tribe such as this one is not beneficial in anyway as the tribes have been trained to survive and live in a certain way and would not be interested in changing their tribal traditions. They have learned how to survive and live a certain way and those ways should not be tampered with. The tribes are sited at the heart of the Amazonian jungle for a reason; and that reason is because they are not meant to have any contact with the outside world. This case however, is different and unique. We have learned that within the next 3 to 5 years this tribe will be confronted by one of a number of Brazilian whom will negotiate with them to take over their land. This should not be happening, but as far as we believe it is unstoppable. If we intervene in the tribe and teach them to stand their ground and not let the natives take advantage of them, the Brazilian companies will probably return with weapons, much stronger than the members of the tribe have, and take the land by force. Taking over by force completely goes against the beliefs of your company and us. It is completely unethical to use force to rid natives of their land and can not be seen as a very enjoyable time for either the natives or the companies; hence not being a very beautiful seen. Because of the given situation we believe that it would be appropriate to intervene in the native tribe and teach them about music, geography, language, and ethics. This will allow them to be able to communicate with the Brazilian workmen in an ethical way and not attempt to attack or resort to cannibalism. In this case it seems appropriate to intervene because if the natives know how to communicate with the Brazilians everything can be a lot more peaceful and there can be practices of truth, beauty, and ethical behaviour.
Firstly, we will discuss the reasons as to why we believe that ethics are some of the most important values that we could teach the tribal children. The tribe practices values such as warring, cannibalism, and infanticide, which are all not accepted by modern day society. The first thing we would do would be to communicate with them in a peaceful way and try and become accepted by their community. We hope that this shouldn’t be too much trouble because we are not coming as enemies or trying to change their customs. We believe that we should teach them that their practices are wrong in a logical way that does not offend the tribe. We should teach them about theories of ethics and morals and have them make their own decisions; hopefully they will make the right decisions on their own. If we are successful, they will learn on their own that their practices are not ethically correct. On the other hand, who are we to decide what is morally correct. The idea of right and wrong, truth and ethics is one that some people even of the same culture find it difficult to agree upon, let alone the people of different societies. Some may say that it is in fact unethical to intervene in their tribe and change their traditions. We believe that due to this unique situation it is completely acceptable to intervene in the culture. This is because if the natives resort to their practices of warring, cannibalism, and infanticide, the companies may use force to take over the land. If this is the case more harm than good would be done. This is why we need to intervene. We need to emphasize truthful and ethical behaviour in order for the natives to have peaceful behaviour when the companies come and hence try and save as many lives as possible. This shows truthful behaviour because of the coherence theory, stating it is true if it fits with other statements that we accept as true. The most universal ethical belief is considered to be truthful because we as a society have come to believe that these morals are true. This ethical belief is that you should treat others as you wish to be treated. This is also backed up with studies of human psychology; people are more likely to have the same feelings towards you as you have towards them. Teaching ethics also represents the theory of beauty because we hope to make the tribe more peaceful, ensuring there is little fighting, and less lives are harmed. If they learn that it is not right to fight they will help to preserve the beauty and peacefulness of their tribe.

In our society the instruments are very important because they can combine both the guitar and the drums to make different styles of music. In relation with beauty they can learn different songs, and develope their intelligence, that are directly related with truth and ethics because depending on the song it shows a different message. The truths are related with the lyrics and in some cases to the music in general. An example of this is Vivaldi that shows happiness. But with the combination of the drums and the guitar they can express a lot of feelings but mostly anger. A problem that can cause this instrument is that maybe it’s too expensive and fragile and its difficult to make an other one if it breaks in the middle of the Amazon. An other problem is that once in a while someone needs to tune it so they need someone that knows a lot about music that is going to be able to do all those arrangements.
